The Salty Parrot

A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. ~Lao Tzu

Last weekend, my husband and I were out for a drive, looking for a unique, laid back place to enjoy a couple of drinks. There was a cool breeze and neither of us have been on the water in a while so we decided to visit the Salty Parrot in North Little Rock. The Salty Parrot is a great restaurant and bar located on the Arkansas River and is connected to the Arkansas Queen. The Queen is a restored river boat offering dinner cruises along the Arkansas River. The Queen is a unique experience worth a try, but we’ll save that for another blog.

But, back to the Salty Parrot. It truly is a floating river café. The day my husband and I visited, there was a slight breeze and a live band played covers, mostly Jimmy Buffett (surprised??). Even without a breeze, misting fans keep the area cool.

I would not visit for the food: it was good, but not great. I have not been at night – so I can’t recommend the nightlife. I have been in the afternoon and would recommend going for a relaxing drink (or two…or three). Salty Parrot offers a casual (think white plastic tables and plastic glasses- even wine) quiet atmosphere with decent service and a great view of the Arkansas River.
